Travelling Criteria
Running
Foot should roll heel to toe in most occasions but can vary with task - sprinting will involve running mainly on toes.
Legs and arms should move in opposition.
Arms should be bent and close to the body.
Arms should swing forwards and backwards and not across the body.
Ideally hips should be held high and core muscles should hold the upper body still.
Skipping
Rhythmical movement which requires a flowing action.
Foot should roll heel to toe.
Step and hop on one foot and lift the other knee into the air.
Arms should be relaxed and swing in time with steps.
Galloping
Body and feet should face forwards.
One foot should be behind the other and should not come to the front at any time.
Front foot steps forward and back foot comes to meet it.
Back foot can be place beside or behind front foot.
Knees should be slightly bent and arms should be relaxed at the sides.
Side Stepping
As above with the exception of feet and body facing sideways.
Jumping 2-2
Feet hip width apart.
Arms swing back, which will in turn leans the body forwards.
Knees bent.
Push off floor, taking off from both feet.
Arms swing forwards and reach to the front.
Hips push forward.
Land with knees bent.
Hopping 1-1
Non jumping leg should be bent behind individual. With practice this leg will assist the hop by 'kicking' back.
Jump from one foot and land on same foot.
Arms are tricky for the hop. They are positioned similarly to running but the timing is different.
Arm at same side as hopping foot should swing back at as far forward as the body. Arm at same side as non hopping foot should swing forwards and back to body level.
