Warm Up:

Working in pairs get one child to hit the shuttle into the four corners of the court. Their partner has

to catch the shuttle in shuttle tube. For child hitting shuttle they should follow through with their racket

in the direction they want the shuttle to go. Ensure the child desn’t turn their back to the net.

Swap roles.

 

Warm Up:

Child moves with racket on court from front of court to back of court. When moving back ensure the children move sideways. Quick feet, side steps and lunges - no running. On half court working individually.

 

High Serve:

Working in pairs or groups of four.

Start with racket high and weight on back foot.

Shift weight, contact shuttle with racket at knee level.

Follow through with racket in direction of shot.

Let the serve drop try to get in between back tramlines.

Practice with partner/group. 

 

Clear:

Working in pairs

Stand side on to net

Keep racquet high and move it directly to shuttle

Use power from transfer of weight.

Add clear after the serve and try to keep a rally going.

Try to hit the shuttle off the wall behind your partner.

 

Overhead Clear Practice:

Working in pairs - One child is feeder and one is the worker.

Worker stands side on to the net towards the back of the court.

Worker steps forward when feeder throws the shuttle up.

Worker has to get timing right to make contact with shuttle.

Racket needs to be high and ready to play shuttle as early as possible.

 

Net Shot:

Working in pairs.

Keep racket high in line with top of net.

Big last step taken towards shuttle.

Don’t swing racket just nudge the shuttle over the net.

Plat shuttle into space make your partner move.

 

Give demo of net shot showing that it is taken as early as possible and with racket in line with the top of the net. Show footwork of the net shot from the base position. Talk about base position.

 

Conditioned Games:

Double points for shots that land at the back half of the court.

Double points for shots that land in front of the service line and in between the tramlines. 

Try to move opponent around court.

Play into spaces.

Say score out loud.
