Underarm Sliding

Have each child get a beanbag and allow the children to slide the beadbag anyway they like anywhere in the gym hall. At this point all that needs to be said is that the beanbag must travel along the floor and not through the air. After a few minutes ask the children to slide the beanbag and emphasis this time that they must be on their feet when they slide the beanbag. After a few minutes bring all the children in and talk about all the different ways they were able to slide the beanbag and get some children to show their ideas.

Ask the children to slide the beanbag as far as they can. Find a child who is swinging their arm to slide the beanbag far away. Ask if this child will show the class. Get the class to sit and watch and ask if anyone can see why the beanbag is going so far? Bring attention to the arm swing. Demonstate holding onto the beanbag too long so that the beanbag will go through the air and not along the floor. Ask the children if they know what you are doing wrong. Get the children to show you their sliding with a swinging arm so that the beanbag goes far away.

Passing and Trapping

Put the children in pairs. Each pair should have one ball suitable for using at their feet. Ask the children to try passing the ball to their partner using different parts of their feet - allow a few minutes for this task. Ask for the best way (hopfully inside of foot). Let them practice passing with the inside of foot.

Ask children to think about their other foot and where it should be when they pass the ball. Ask them to try different places for their foot - infront, beside, behind the ball. Again talk about the best way. Now ask the children to try to pass the ball using the inside of their foot and placing their other foot beside the ball.

Trapping the ball - children should place one foot on top of the ball to stop it. Have the children use their hands to roll the ball to their partner gently so that the partner can stop the ball with their foot. As the children get better the balls can be rolled faster and out to the side.
