Object Control Applications
Underarm/Overarm Throw
Equipment: 6 Hoops Shuttles
Children work at throwing shuttles into hoops. Make sure there are markers for the children to stand at when throwing so they stand at an appropriate distance from the hoops. Standing close to the hoops will encourage underarm and further away will encourage overarm throws.
Equipment: Light Throwing Items
Split the class into two groups and have lots of throwing equipment split between them. The aim is for each group to clear their area by throwing the items over as quickly as they can. The winning team is the team with the least equipment when you call time. Put a net up to ensure overarm throw if desired.
Throwing and Catching With Partner
Equipment: Hoop for each child Ball between two
Have the children stand in a hoop facing their partner. They should start quite close together. They have to aim to get the ball to their partner so that their partner can catch it without stepping out the hoop. When they complete four in a row let them move their hoops back one step.
Rolling, Throwing, Catching
Equipment: Ball between two
Have the children stand opposite their partner. They have to roll the ball along the floor, when the partner gets the ball they pick it up throw and catch it and roll it back.
Sliding
Equipment: Beanbag between two
Children stand opposite a partner and they have to slide the beanbag across the floor aiming to get the beanbag inbetween their partner's legs.
Variation is to give one point for getting beanbag through legs and 2 points for getting it to touch a foot.
Equipment: Marker cones Beanbags
Give each child a beanbag and cone and allow them to work freely at sliding the beanbag to their cone from anywhere.
Place children opposite a partner with a cone in the middle. Children have to slide the beanbag and hit the cone.
Variation, as above but have the aim of the game to hit the cone all the way to your partner to get a point. Good point about this game is that if the cones gets closer to you it is easier to hit.
Play as a full class game by spliting the class into two teams and dividing your area with marker cones. Each team uses beanbags to slide the cones to the other team's half. Team with the least cones in their half when you call time wins
Kicking / Trapping
Equipment: Different coloured balls that children can use at feet 6 Hoops or cones that match the colours of the balls
Everyone dribbles their own football around the gym. When the music stops, children must stop their ball completely and find a different coloured ball. Six different coloured hoops or coloured cones are on the floor. The hoops could be hanging from six different basketball hoops to help children to keep their eyes off the ball. Children dribble their new coloured ball to the matching coloured hula hoop or cone and perform toe taps (tapping the ball with the sole of the right foot and then the left). Once all children reach hula hoop or cone, begin again. Encourage children to use a different colorued ball each time.
Continue the activity and keep challenging the students with various dribbles, i.e., right foot, left foot, football dribble, change pathways, kick into the wall, follow a friend, roll over spots, tap into a cone, and/or kick into a taped box on the wall.
Throwing and Catching
Equipment: Ball per group
Beat the ball. Have each group stand in a circle in a space. Children need to be far enough away from each other to throw the ball. Aim is that the child that starts with the ball runs around the circle as soon as they've throw it to the next person. The person running has to try and make it around the circle before it has been passed around back to their original space. Running can be changed to any travelling movement as a variation.
