Passing

Shoulder/javelin pass

Hold the ball with one hand (other hand can be at the side of the ball for support). Step forward with opposite foot. Ball should be pushed across- this pass should travel fast and flat. Hand should follow through in direction of pass.

Overhead High pass.

Similar to shoulder/javelin pass, this time however the ball travels upward rather than flat. Pass will be slower but can pass over the heads of defenders.

Chest pass

Pass should travel from sender chest to receivers chest. Ball is passed using both hands, fingers behind the ball, with elbows out push ball while while stepping forward with either foot.

Bounce pass

Low pass used over a short distance usually to feed into circle. Small pass used to get past a close defender. Similar to the chest pass. Ball should bounce closer to the receiver than the passer.

Netball Tag - Warm up

Start with about 5 player without bibs everyone else in the class wears a bib. The players without bibs must pass the ball to each other and try to touch any player with a bib with the ball (withouth throwingball at them). Anyone that is touched by the ball takes their bib off and joins the 'catchers'.

Reaction Passing - Warm up

1 ball between 2. Working in pairs pupils takes turn of working and feeding. The worker must catch and throw back ball from the feeder. Ball should be thrown to either side or slightly behind (ideally the worker will not move more than 2 steps to retrieve ball.

Teaching Points

Worker must attack the ball and pull it into the chest

Eye to ball contact

Stance is balanced, not too broad and ready to move

Receiving on the Run

In pairs facing each other, one player runs to the side and the other throws the ball infront of the running player. Running player catches ball and throws it back and runs in the other direction.

You may need to do this drill in larger groups is space is an issue. Have 2 lines facing each other and once the runner throws the ball back they join the end of the line.

Teaching  Points:

Passes must be in front of the running player to ensure they run onto the ball and don't have to reach backwards or stop to catch the pass.
