Benchball

A game that is frequently use to develop ball skills and spatial awareness, it is an excellent progression to both netball and basketball.
By spliting the gym hall into 2 or 3 small courts it is possible to get most if not all of the children participating.
Each court needs to benches, 2 teams, bids and a ball.
There should be one bench at either end of the court and each team nominates one player to stand on the bench in their half of the court - when this person catches the ball a point is scored. The rest of the players arrange themselves anywhere in their half.
To start the games you can throw the ball into the centre of the court or start it like the start of netball (centre pass) or basketball (tip off) whichever is most relevant to your class.
The aim of the game is to score goals by passing the ball around your team in order to pass it back to your person on the bench. Each team has to make five passes before getting the ball to their bench. Can be played with the rule that if the ball is dropped or the opposition gain possession, then the pass count starts again.
When a goal is scored the opposition restarts by throwing the ball in from behind the bench where the goal was scored. If the ball is knocked out of the court by one team, then the other team gets to throw in from behind the side line.

Additions can be made such as adding dribbling or conditioning the game to have more defence or attack to create an overload.
